Hailing from a family of traditional musicians, S.R. Mahadeva Sarma started learning violin at a tender age of seven under the able guidence of his father famous violinist Prof. M. Subramonia Sarma (who is the senior most violinist in Kerala). S.R. Mahadeva Sarma gave his first violin duet performance at the age of ten along with his sister S.R. Rajasree. S.R. Mahadeva Sarma is an 'ATOP' grade violinist of All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram. He has been performing in the field of karnatic music since 1984. His mother Smt K. Renuka is also a good music lover.

He has performed many violin duet concerts & violin trio concerts along with his father Prof.M. Subramonia Sarma and his sister S.R. Rajasree in India and abroad. In 2005 he has done violin duet concerts tour to United States of America along with his sister S.R. Rajasree. Also S.R. Mahadeva Sarma accompanied on the violin to the vocal concerts of Padma Bhooshan Dr.K.J. Yesudas in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Gulf Countries, Europe and United States of America.

Among all the senior & famous artistes whom S.R. Mahadeva Sarma has accompanied, Dr.K.J. Yesudas gave encouragement, guidence and patronage. This aspect has inspired S.R. Mahadeva Sarma to achieve excellence in his field of music.

S.R. Mahadeva Sarma has done music direction to the music album "Ragasaagaram" of malayalam film play back singer M.G. Sreekumar and has performed background music violin for many malayalam film songs such as "Kasthooriman", "Thaandavam" and tamil film "Kaancheevaram".

    Speciality of performance S.R.Mahadeva Sarma "s performance is marked by excellent command over the instrument, excellent gamakas, deep classical values, melody, finger techniques and bowing techniques. He is giving importance to gamaka prayogas. He observes the indian style of bowing technique where he is using the thaanavillu style of playing [where the bow makes intermittent cuts in var nams, ragas, keerthans, niraval and swara playing] the gamakas add lustre and charm to the playing .. He has violin duet cassettes & cd to his credit and has performed in latest malayalam movies.

    S.R. Mahadeva Sarma has accompanied on the violin with many artistes like, Dr.M.Balamuraleekrishna, Padmabhooshan Dr.K.J.Yesudas, Padmabhooshan. T.V.Sankaranarayanan, Padmasri.Palghat K.V.Narayanaswamy, Padmabhooshan.P.S.Narayanaswamy, Sri T.N.Seshagopalan, Padmabhooshan Trichur V.Ramachandran, Padmabhooshan. B. Rajam Iyer, Padmasri Kadri Gopalnath, Dr N.Ramany, Sri T.R.Subramoniam, Sri T.K.Govinda Rao, Sri K.G.Jayan, moreover with Late Padmabhooshan K.S.Narayanaswamy (Veena). In fact Padmabhooshan K.S.Narayanaswamy was very much liked the violin performance of S.R. Mahadeva Sarma and he insisted that S.R. Mahadeva Sarma should accompany on the violin for his veena concert. After the concert he appreciated.that was in 1999, K.S.Narayanaswamy's last A.I.R. recording.
